Coren, literally “Chosen” is the past participle of “Choose” in the old english “Ceosan” – a past participle denotes action which has been completed.

choose: (verb) to think about (which one) of several things is the one you want, and take the action to get it;

chosen: past participle of choose. denotes action which has been completed. Literally, one who is the object of choice or special favor.

What is in a name?

In thinking of names we wondered if anyone was adopted in the Bible? We thought of Joseph and Daniel. These young men were brought to foreign lands and were destined to do great things for God. Both Joseph and Daniel lived lives of tremendous courage and unwavering faith. The night we accepted Jose as our referral, Sandra suddenly shouted... "Keith, look at his name! Jose is Joseph... and Daniel. These were the names we had wanted all along." Could it be that his birth mother has similar longings for her son as we? Later, we looked up the meaning of Joseph and were delighted to read: "God will add, God will increase." So Jose Daniel... we will keep your name!

Our Adoption Timeline

  • 9/25 DNA taken... which means resubmitted birth certificate was received and accepted at the US Embassy
  • 9/6 Birth Certificate rejected at US Embassy; lawyer resubmits on 9/10
  • 8/24 OUT OF PGN... NO KICK-OUTS!!!
  • 7/27 Entered PGN
  • 6/25 Preapproval received
  • 5/30 thru 6/3 1st visit to Guatemala to visit Joseph
  • 5/12/07 PGN kick out(KO), needing preapproval (PA)
  • 5/7/07 Entered PGN 1st time
  • 4/26/07 DNA result: 99.9% positive
  • 4/19/07 DNA taken
  • 4/16/07 Entered Family Court
  • 3/16/07 I 171H received (US Immigration approval)
  • 2/21/07 Accepted referral of Joseph
  • 2/3/07 Joseph Daniel is born
  • 1/19/07 Home Study Complete
  • 1/6/07 Home Visit from Social Worker
  • Nov '06 thru Jan '07 Dossier compiled for Guatemala
  • 11/17/06 Application to Celebrate Children International sent; adoption coordinator Sue Hedberg at the helm
  • 11/16/06 Initial meeting with Sue Cain, International Adoption Social Worker
